I have lived in Helmsdale for the past 45 years and been running a B&B from Selkie House since *retiring*,  for the past 2.  I have a good working knowledge of the area and can give usefull advice to anyone who would like to explore the local places of interest. I try to be as flexable as possible, so that my visitors can enjoy a leisurely break here in the North without trying to meet too many deadlines, early breakfasts can also be arranged, for guests who have a full day. Selkie has a super location facing south with great views and easy access to enjoy the interesting  mix of pleasue crusers, yachts and creel boats  who shelter in the harbour, Crabs and losbsters can be bought from the keyside but it is advised that you  get your order in the day before. We have some of the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets in the country so it can be very rewarding venturing here off season, especially since the recent repetition of mild winters have made travelling safe. The enclosed garden should keep the most active dog from escaping if you are travelling with your pet.. Many rare birds live and breed along the shoreline and it is a never ending treat to watch flocks of terns oystercatchers and cormorants from the coastal walk that passes the house.  Seals can regularly seen from the shore.The bolder beach often gives up its treasures of fossil coral, fossil wood and beautiful white quartz stones to those with sharp enough eyes to find them. The area is full of delights for those who enjoy lovely views interesting historical buildings and rambles in the country. For the more adventurous pleasant runs up the Strath of Kildonan through the flow country to the North coast and west to Poolewe and Ullapool, give a greater understanding of the unspoilt beauty of the area.

Captains Cabin

This is a comfortably furnished double room, on the gound floor of the house, It is located beside the front door and provides easy access to the street and harbour front. It is facing South and has uninterrupted views over the Moray firth to Bucky, Stone Haven and Tarbetness. It has an intregal washhand basin with mirror and shaver point. A smart tv with free wifi and a double bed. The fully equipped shower room, a few steps along the corridor, is shared with my other letting bedroom Song of the sea. directly opposite. Many extras are included catering for the vast majority of needs.Acccess to the the shared kitchen is 24 hours daily for tea and coffee making facilities with a range of snacks, washing machine and drier, micro wave and conventional oven fridge and freezer.

Song of the Sea

This is a double room, on the gound floor of the house, it is facing South and has uninterrupted views over the Moray firth to Bucky, Stone Haven and Tarbetness. This room is located beside the front entrance to the house giving easy access to the harbour and street. Comfortably furnished, it includes many extras It has an intregal washhand basin with mirror and shaver point. A smart tv with Netflix, free wifi and a double bed..A fridge is installed useful for longer stays. The fully equipped shower room is shared with Captains Cabin, the room opposite and is a few steps along the corridor. the heating can be adjusted to personal requirements. The shared kitchen and small tv lounge is fully equippd with micro wave and conventional oven fridge and washing and drying facilities, Access to this room is 24 hours daily for tea and coffee making facilities and choice of snacks.

Riverside walks, coastal walks, Helmsdale Harbour. To name but a few. A vast range of thing to do and places to go can be accessed using Helmsdale as a central point .
